New lungs for James
James D. Binegar
written by his mother
James will be celebrating his 34th. birthday on July 20th (2004). James was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) when he was 3 years old. Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic, progressive and frequently fatal disease of the mucus glands. It is a genetic disease that affects more than 30,000 people in the United States, 20,000 in Europe and many more thousands around the world. A defective gene causes the body to produce an abnormally thick, sticky mucus. This abnormal mucus can and does lead to chronic and life threatening lung infections and also impair digestion. The sweat glands and reproductive system are also usually involved. On average, patients with Cystic Fibrosis have a life span of approximately 32 years currently. James continues to beat those odds.
James has worked hard to fight his battle with CF. He graduated from high school in 1988 and attended some college. He has worked in fast food as a teenager, he was a ceramic tile setter, a car salesmen, bed and furniture sales, a master picture framer and artist.
Although James has not been able to work for quite some time, he has not let time pass him by. He has created several websites to share information, support, and encouragement to other people with CF, their families and friends. He is truly an inspiration to all who know him. He always has a smile on his face and never complains.
For some time now, James's health has been declining. His lung functions have been getting lower and he is often on oxygen 24 hours a day. He has a feeding tube to help him with his nutrition needs and has to take insulin to control CF related diabetes. Most of the time he spends in his room because he doesn't have the energy to do the things he once did. Recently, his doctors have referred him to the transplant team for a double lung transplant. Wonderful news for James .... to have hope for the future and lungs to breathe freely.
Although James is disabled and on medicare, there are many medical expenses not covered pre and post transplant. He and his family have been told to begin fund-raising to help with the medical costs and temporary housing expenses there will be before and after surgery. If you can help in any way, it would be very much appreciated by James and his family.
Checks or money orders may be made payable to:
James Binegar Transplant Fund
and mailed to the Binegar Family at:
1706 Green Valley Rd.
Washington Courthouse,
Ohio, 43160You can also make contributions using online using PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express all located on one of James websites using his donation button. Here is the direct link:

ICRA labelledThe Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) is an international, non-profit organization of internet leaders working to make the internet safer for children, while respecting the rights of content providers. ICRA has long believed the best approach to protecting children online is through "user empowerment" - giving families the tools to control their online experience. When used voluntarily, tools like ICRA's empower families to match their online experience with their values, without compromising free expression or undermining other users' access to information.
